Reflections & Intentions

Another year, another reflection.

I like to do this by journaling; I'll make a title for each month and give some room in between for me to write, and then I'll start to meditate on the feelings I had during each month that year. It helps to use a meditation stone when I do this. I've really been liking malachite for intense transformation and angelite for intuition. I'll stare at the pretty stone and let my eyes get heavy as I get into a meditative state, sit on each month, and let the feelings come and go as they naturally will. I try to enter my heart space instead of thoughts for this. I'm relying on feeling the feelings of each month rather than remembering specific memories.
Upon reflecting, you will naturally want to start setting intentions for the new year. Instead of making a new year plan, start by making a new month plan. How were you in January of 2023 compared to how you want to be in January of 2024? It's nice to break it up month by month because then you can really start to isolate your areas of change and lean into a more specific focus for your intentions.
Remember not to compare yourself with anyone but you. That is why you are taking 2023 YOU and comparing them to 2024 future YOU. Ask specific questions, you get specific answers. Who more specific to you than yourself?
Everyone starts somewhere, so start with January and maybe journal here and there. Start with gratitude for being able to enter a new year, some people unfortunately didn't. Be grateful you can read this today. I know I am to write this. Aren't we so fucking lucky.
You don't have to make journaling a job, do it when you feel like it and reflect every now and then. After you start seeing benefits, your body will naturally signal your mind and hands to pick up your journal and start writing more frequently. Something to keep in mind is that it is better to have a few pages of thoughtful reflection than a full journal of forced entries. You will get nothing out of forcing yourself to write if you do not feel like it. And that is exactly why you will be seeing spotty blog entries.. sorry but I take my own advice. That reminds me..
Take your own advice!!!
You would be pretty surprised by how right you are. Ofcourse, not alll the time but you know how we're so good at giving other people advice. It's because humans give good advice! We are just not good at taking it! So when you're stuck, take a second and think of what you would say to a friend in your position. Listen to yourself this year. You know yourself better than anyone anyway.
NEW YEARS INTENTIONS > NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS
Don't get so caught up in making a list of all the things that have to be crossed off before 2025. Set intentions. We are still one year far, so take it slow and don't get overwhelmed. Start asking yourself what is your January intention? What is something that would be nice to accomplish by February but you wouldn't be that disappointed if it didn't happen exactly by then. Do this for the next few months and you'll be surprised at how much easier it is to keep up with your goals. Also give gratitude to entering another month.
Thank you for reading to the bottom of this and happy reflecting on everything that happened this year. As a collective, it is particularly hard right now to go into another year knowing millions of children lost theirs so this is going to be an especially sensitive start to the year. I'll end with a collective intention of kindness to ourselves and others this year. Remember that we are all the same more than we are different and take the extra step to make someone remember your last interaction together as the most compassionate you.
Deep thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts,
Your HippieGirlfriend
